Medicare Part A is inpatient and hospital insurance. Part A coverage applies to:

  • Skilled nursing facility care

  • Some home health care

Medicare Part B is outpatient medical insurance. Part B coverage applies to:

WHAT IS MEDICARE PART D?

Medicare Part D plans provide beneficiaries with privately managed, federally approved prescription drug coverage. Medicare Part A and B don’t offer prescription drug coverage, so Part D helps:

  • Manage prescription drug costs
  • Provide lower cost-sharing for in-network and preferred pharmacies

Most people don't pay a monthly premium for Part A . If you buy Part A, you'll pay up to $499 each month in 2022. If you paid Medicare taxes for less than 30 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $499. If you paid Medicare taxes for 30-39 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $274.

The standard Part B premium amount is $170.10.  However higher incomes individuals might pay more.
